The Lajes Ridge Runners

April 29, 2006

The Ridge Runners are a group of people who like to take the road less-traveled.  It's a different group every run, but we had a good one today.

Let's make one thing very clear:  I hate running.  But in the Air Force you really don't have a choice, so at least you can make the best of it.  Trail running is the best kind of running, because you get a little distracted by the watching the scenery and trying not to kill yourself.

James Wall is tearing up the trail at Raminho (the northwest corner of the island).  This was a 5K run, and it was over fast.  You should try it sometime, it's a hoot!

We don't always run.  Sometimes it's just not safe!  Today was a hike because the terrain was steep and nasty.

Three miles and 1500 feet later, the view from the top reminded us why we got out of bed for this.  Chris Cuthbert leans on a marker that's a lot older than him.

The view from the top is unbelievable here.  This trailhead is in Serreta on the western side of the island.

There's a small lake at the top.  It's a nice place to engage in deep conversation.  Rob Ellen doesn't know anything about that, though.  He's probably just being a bunghole.
