We drove to Valdez with Tessa & Nelson
and saw the Worthington Glacier along the way. Tessa, Nelson and
Tanya pose

Keystone Canyon, on the approach to Valdez. |

Tanya & Tessa stand in front of Bridal Veil Falls in
Keystone Canyon. |
Hiking in Keystone Canyon is no picnic! Here you
can see Tanya and Nelson using a rope to navigate some tricky geography. |
Time to go hiking! Tessa & Nelson stand on a
great trail we found overlooking Prince William Sound. |
Across the bay from our trail, the pumping station where the
tankers fill up with crude oil. Look closely and you can see it in
the center of the picture. |

Although the weather was overcast it was warm and
humid. |
This was very rugged trail. Tanya, Tessa, &
Nelson are crossing one of the three waterfalls we traversed. |

We had lunch at Gold Creek. Shortly after this the
trail got so rough we had to turn back. We did over eight miles
round-trip. |
Time to go sea kayaking! Tanya & Nelson suit up
in preparation for our trip to Shoup Glacier in Prince William Sound. |

Tessa & Nelson tearing up Shoup Bay! People in sea
kayaks are cool. |
Our trip through the bay took us past a Kittiwake
rookery. Tanya's looking at about a million of the gull-like birds
hanging out in and around their nests. |

Group photo! Here we all are on the rocky shore with
our boats. |
Lunch time (again)! After a short hike we finally
made it. A good view of the Shoup Glacier in the background.
It was calving a lot of ice into the bay on that day. |

The view down Shoup Bay from the Glacier. It's about a
two-hour paddle from one end to the other. |
We pulled our kayaks up next to each other for a group
photo. It didn't last long...we had to separate and ride out some
huge waves from the ice calving off the glacier. |

A great shot of a huge chunk of ice calving off the glacier,
taken by our guide Paul. It looks rather blurry but that's all ice
and spray! |
